Microcurrent Facial Rejuvenation

Initially, microcurrent was used in acupuncture treatments for regenerating sagging facial muscles of post-stroke and Bell’s palsy patients. Its ability to improve the cosmetic appearance of the face was clear, and it is now frequently used in conjunction with classic acupuncture facial rejuvenation techniques. These techniques involve needling specific points on the face and body to improve circulation to the face, naturally smooth fine lines, and bring increased vibrancy to the skin.

Microcurrent Therapy (Micro Electrical Nerve Stimulation) is often referred to as “bio-electric therapy” because of its ability to stimulate cellular physiologic functions and growth. Research supports that microcurrent is compatible with, and similar to, our bodies’ nervous system, and mimics the electrical impulses which are vital to cellular activity. Unlike higher voltage electrotherapy units, such as TENS, microcurrent stimulates the production of ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate), a molecule in cells that stores and distributes energy. Microcurrent is used successfully for regeneration of skin ulcers and burns, as well as for muscle regeneration and strengthening after trauma in Olympic athletes.

Acupuncture and microcurrent can be used in conjunction with cosmetic facial surgery to improve the final outcome, reduce swelling and scarring, and speed healing. (If you have recently had cosmetic surgery, please discuss this with your physician prior to treatment)

WHAT IS MICROCURRENT THERAPY?
Microcurrent is a very minute electrical stimulation similar to, and compatible with, our nervous system. It was originally used in medicine promote healing of injuries and ease muscle spasms.

WHAT DOES THE TREATMENT DO?
This non-invasive treatment helps reduce signs of aging. It combines the healing benefits of microcurrent with techniques to improve facial muscle balance, reduce puffiness and soften fine lines. The process enhances overall health as acupuncture points are stimulated during the treatment while addressing aesthetic issues.

IS THE TREATMENT SAFE?
Yes. Microcurrent has been successfully used by professional athletes for pain and injury recovery for over 25 years. Instruments are Certified for Sale by the FDA. However, there are contraindications for electrical stimulation. I will discuss them with you prior to treatment.

IS MICROCURRENT THERAPY PAINFUL?
No. It is so relaxing that many people fall asleep.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THE TREATMENT?
People of all ages and varying skin types. Is the treatment therapeutic as well as cosmetic? Yes. Our bodies function by use of their own natural electric currents. A microcurrent treatment helps initiate and sustain electrical activities of the cell.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED?
A series usually consists of 12 sessions. Additional treatments may be recommended depending on the age of the patient and other considerations. Lifestyle can affect results.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME IN FOR TREATMENT?
Ideally, sessions are done twice a week for 6 weeks. If that’s not possible, I recommend doing at least the first 6 sessions on a twice weekly basis, then switching to once per week for the next 6 sessions. For best results, maintenance sessions are recommended following a series of treatments. The frequency of maintenance sessions needed will depend on age, skin condition, and lifestyle.

IS THE TREATMENT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A FACELIFT?
No. Sometimes you will hear the terms ‘Acu Face Lift’ or ‘Non-Surgical Facelift’, which can be misleading. Results are subtle in comparison to cosmetic facial surgery, but it is also more natural looking, safer, less expensive, and there’s no need for recovery time.

Acupuncture and microcurrent can be used in conjunction with cosmetic facial surgery to improve the final outcome, reduce swelling and scarring, and speed healing. (If you have recently had cosmetic surgery, please discuss this with your physician prior to treatment)
