Three Supplements to Reduce Inflammation

Nearly every chronic disease in the world today can be linked back to this same thing.

🔥 Chronic Inflammation 🔥

In my opinion, not enough people are talking about this!

This is the third of a three-part blog series on chronic inflammation. If you have not already - please go back and review the first two blogs in this series to learn more about symptoms and disorders associated with chronic inflammation, common underlying causes, and the four pillars of an anti-inflammatory lifestyle.

Inflammation is not entirely evil.

We need our bodies to mount an inflammatory response to fight off infections or heal from injuries, but we don’t want to be stuck in a never-ending inflammatory cycle.

That’s when we start to consider lifestyle changes and supplements to support a healthy inflammatory response.

Three Supplements to Reduce Inflammation

💊 Curcumin

Curcumin is what gives the Indian spice turmeric its bright yellow color. I typically prescribe Curcumin in doses of 500-1500 mg per day. Choose a product that has been formulated for optimal absorption - like my highly-bioavailable Curcumin Complex.

💊 Omega-3s

Omega-3s are essential fatty acids found in fish oils, nuts, and seeds. They act as precursors to molecules that participate directly in anti-inflammatory pathways. You can supplement omega-3 fats in the form of fish oil, one of the most commonly recommended supplements in my practice.

Buyer beware! Not all Fish Oil products are created equal!

Pro tip ➡️ Turn the bottle to the "Supplement Facts" box on the back and look at:

1️⃣ Serving size (how many capsules make up a serving)

2️⃣ How much eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are in each serving?

EPA and DHA are the ACTIVE Omega-3 fats doing the work. Often "total Omega-3 fats" are listed on the front of the bottle, but this includes the amount of inactive Omega-3 fats.

You can view my highly-concentrated, ultra-pure Fish Oil here:

💊 Quercetin

Quercetin is a flavonoid in apple skins, onions, tomatoes, and other fruits and vegetables. It acts at the cellular level to support a healthy inflammatory response. I recommend Quercetin for a variety of inflammatory conditions, but most often for asthma, allergies, and viral respiratory illness. My Quercetin-Bromelain Forte combines Quercetin with the anti-inflammatory pineapple extract Bromelain.

The supplements I recommend for any given person depending on their unique situation, lab tests, and goals. Uncovering the root cause of chronic inflammation is a highly individualized process. As a board-certified Integrative & Functional Medicine physician, I can help you “think outside of the box and dig deeper with a variety of laboratory testing to help uncover the underlying root causes of inflammation in your body and create a plan personalized for you that goes beyond the prescription pad to incorporate diet/lifestyle change, nutritional supplements, holistic therapies, health coaching and more!
